Springfield, MO — Missouri residents should prepare for a turbulent weather week ahead. Strong to marginally severe thunderstorms are possible today, with damaging winds, hail up to the size of quarters, and localized flash flooding expected. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a warning, highlighting the period between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. for the most severe weather.

According to the NWS, a Heat Advisory is in effect from noon until 9 p.m. today along and west of I-49. Heat index values are forecasted to soar between 100 and 110 degrees Fahrenheit, posing a risk of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Residents are urged to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned areas, and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun.

Monday will see the heat intensify, with temperatures expected to approach 100°F. The high heat combined with lingering humidity will create dangerous conditions. By mid-week, temperatures are expected to remain in the 90s, although there might be slight relief on Wednesday as highs dip closer to 91°F.

Throughout the week, residents should remain vigilant for sudden weather changes, particularly with the potential for localized flooding and heat-related illnesses. Stay informed with regular updates from the NWS and take necessary precautions to stay safe.
