Kansas City, MO – A powerful winter storm is set to hit Missouri starting late Monday, bringing heavy snowfall, dangerous wind chills, and hazardous travel conditions. Residents should prepare for snow accumulations between 5 to 7 inches and extreme cold lasting through Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect from midnight Monday to early Wednesday, with snowfall expected to intensify Tuesday morning. Strong winds could create blowing snow and reduce visibility. An Extreme Cold Watch is also in place from Wednesday night through Thursday, with wind chills as low as -25°F, increasing the risk of frostbite within 30 minutes.

Travel is expected to be dangerous, particularly on I-70 and major roadways in Kansas City. Officials urge drivers to avoid unnecessary travel and keep emergency supplies in their vehicles.

After the storm, temperatures will remain bitterly cold. Highs will stay in the single digits through Wednesday before warming slightly over the weekend.

Residents should dress in layers, insulate pipes, and check on vulnerable neighbors. For updates, visit weather.gov.
