St. Louis, MO – Severe weather is expected to hit Missouri this afternoon, with isolated strong to severe storms developing between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in St. Louis, the storms will primarily affect areas along and south of I-44 in Missouri and I-70 in Illinois. The main threat is damaging winds of up to 60 mph, which could cause significant property damage and power outages. Flash flooding is also a concern, as the storms may bring heavy rainfall to the region.

According to the NWS, after this afternoon’s storms, the threat of severe weather continues with a flood watch in effect from early Tuesday morning through Wednesday. A wide swath of 2 to 4 inches of rain is expected, with locally higher amounts possible. This rainfall will primarily impact areas along and south of I-44 in Missouri and I-70 in Illinois, increasing the potential for flash flooding and rising river levels.

Forecasters note there is still uncertainty in the exact track of the storm system, named Beryl. If Beryl tracks further south, the potential for heavy rain and flooding decreases. Conversely, if it moves further north, more areas could experience heavy rainfall and associated flooding. Residents are advised to stay updated with the latest weather information and to take necessary precautions, such as avoiding low-lying areas prone to flooding and securing outdoor objects that could be blown away by strong winds.
