Kansas City, MO – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for parts of Kansas and Missouri until 6 p.m. Wednesday as freezing rain and drizzle create hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill, additional ice accumulations of up to one-tenth of an inch are expected in affected areas, including Kansas City, St. Joseph, and Overland Park. Northeast Kansas and central to northwestern Missouri are under the advisory.
Residents should prepare for slippery roads, particularly during the morning and evening commutes. Ice-covered sidewalks and bridges may also create dangerous conditions. Power outages are possible in areas where ice builds up on power lines.
Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution while traveling. In Kansas, updated road conditions can be accessed by dialing 511, while Missouri travelers can visit traveler.modot.org for the latest updates.
This advisory affects multiple counties, including Miami, Cass, and Johnson in Missouri, as well as Atchison, Wyandotte, and Leavenworth in Kansas. More updates will follow as conditions develop.
