Springfield, MO – A Red Flag Warning has been issued for parts of southeast Kansas and southwest Missouri from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. CST on Friday due to dangerous fire conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, strong west winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph, will combine with low humidity levels of 15 to 20 percent and temperatures reaching 70 degrees. These conditions will create an increased risk for rapidly spreading wildfires.

The warning covers multiple counties, including Bourbon, Crawford, and Cherokee in Kansas, as well as Vernon, Jasper, Greene, and Newton counties in Missouri. Officials strongly advise against outdoor burning, as any fire that starts could spread quickly and become difficult to contain.

Residents are urged to take precautions by securing outdoor materials, avoiding activities that generate sparks, and reporting any signs of fire immediately. Fire departments remain on high alert for potential outbreaks.

For the latest updates and safety information, residents can monitor the National Weather Service and local emergency management agencies.
