St. Louis, MO – A tornado watch remains in effect until 7 p.m. today for parts of East Central Missouri and West Central Illinois as dangerous storms move through the region, including the St. Louis metro area.
According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, Tornado Watch No. 101 was issued at 4:20 p.m. and covers a broad zone along and near a line stretching from northeast of Alton, Illinois to southwest of Farmington, Missouri.
The watch outlines a high probability of severe weather, including several possible tornadoes—some of which could be strong—along with widespread large hail up to 2 inches in diameter and wind gusts as high as 70 mph.
A line of severe thunderstorms is pushing eastward through Missouri and Illinois, triggering warnings and prompting residents to prepare for potentially life-threatening weather. The watch area spans about 35 miles east and west of the projected storm track.
Meteorologists are urging residents in the affected counties to closely monitor weather updates, remain indoors during warnings, and be prepared to seek shelter on short notice. Strong storms are expected to persist into the early evening hours.
Aviation alerts are also active, with forecasters noting extreme turbulence, surface wind gusts near 60 knots, and towering cumulonimbus clouds reaching up to 50,000 feet.
This warning adds to an already active day of severe weather in the Midwest, with multiple tornado watches already in effect across the region.
