Jackson, MS – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect across parts of Mississippi, Arkansas, and Louisiana, bringing dangerous conditions. The National Weather Service warns of mixed precipitation beginning Thursday afternoon and continuing through midday Friday.

Forecasters predict ice accumulations of one-tenth of an inch and snow or sleet up to an inch in some areas. Hazardous conditions will likely affect the Thursday evening and Friday morning commutes in affected regions. This includes cities such as Louisville, Macon, Greenville, Crossett, and Bastrop.

According to the National Weather Service, precipitation will begin around noon Thursday in southeast Arkansas and northern Louisiana. Affected counties in Mississippi, including Noxubee, Winston, and Washington, will experience worsening conditions after midnight. Roads are expected to become slippery, with freezing rain and sleet creating treacherous travel conditions.

Authorities urge residents to slow down and use caution while traveling. Drivers should remain alert for icy bridges, overpasses, and untreated surfaces. Motorists are advised to call 511 for the latest road updates in their area.

Preparations are essential as temperatures will stay below freezing overnight. Residents should stock up on essentials and ensure flashlights and batteries are available in case of power outages.
