Jackson, MS – A winter storm is expected to bring snow accumulations and dangerous road conditions to parts of Mississippi starting Monday. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch, forecasting up to 4 inches of snow along the Highway 84 corridor and central portions of the state.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, snowfall is likely to begin early Tuesday, with roads potentially becoming snow-covered and icy. Accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are forecast, with higher amounts in southern regions. Residents are urged to monitor updates and reconsider travel plans, especially along Highway 84 and Interstate 20.

The storm will combine very cold temperatures with snow, increasing risks for slick roads and hazardous driving conditions through Tuesday evening. Bridges and overpasses are particularly vulnerable to freezing. Anyone who must travel is advised to carry an emergency kit, including blankets, flashlights, and extra food and water.

Tuesday’s forecast calls for highs near 32°F, with gusty winds adding to the chill. Conditions are expected to improve Wednesday, with sunshine returning and temperatures reaching the low 40s. By Thursday, the region will see warmer weather, with highs approaching 46°F.

Residents should prepare for delays and power outages due to heavy snow and monitor official updates for the latest information. Travel is discouraged unless absolutely necessary.
