Pittsburgh, PA – Western Pennsylvania is bracing for an arctic cold front that will bring dangerously low temperatures and strong winds beginning Monday. A cold weather advisory remains in effect through Wednesday afternoon, with wind chills expected to drop as low as -22 degrees Fahrenheit.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), residents should prepare for frostbite risks and reduced visibility due to icy roads. The coldest temperatures are forecast for Monday night into Tuesday, with lows around -1 degree and wind gusts reaching 30 mph. Major roadways, including I-70 and I-79, could become hazardous as untreated surfaces freeze rapidly.

Snow flurries may add to travel difficulties through Tuesday. The NWS warns that even treated roads could freeze under rapidly falling temperatures. Those driving should allow extra travel time and carry emergency supplies in their vehicles.

The extended forecast shows little relief from the cold. Tuesday will remain frigid with a high of 15 degrees, while lows Tuesday night will dip to -9. Temperatures will begin to rebound slightly on Thursday, with a high near 28 degrees and mostly sunny skies.

Residents are urged to wear layers, avoid prolonged exposure, and check on neighbors and pets. Hypothermia risks increase as temperatures drop, making proper preparation critical.
