Jackson, MS – A wind advisory remains in effect across most of Mississippi through midnight Wednesday, with forecasters warning of hazardous gusts and potential power disruptions.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, the advisory spans portions of southeast Arkansas, northeast Louisiana, and nearly all of Mississippi. South winds are expected to reach sustained speeds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts topping out around 50 mph.
The advisory, issued late Wednesday morning, emphasizes the potential for unsecured outdoor objects to become airborne. Tree limbs may also be blown down, increasing the risk of isolated power outages throughout the region.
Drivers, particularly those in high-profile vehicles, are urged to use caution on west-to-east facing roads, where wind exposure may be most intense. Officials are recommending residents secure any loose outdoor items to prevent damage or injury.
The advisory includes cities such as Jackson, Meridian, Hattiesburg, Greenville, and Brookhaven, among dozens of others impacted across central, north, and southern Mississippi. Wind conditions are expected to begin subsiding after midnight.
This system is part of a broader spring weather pattern sweeping across the South, and additional alerts could be issued depending on developing conditions.
Motorists, homeowners, and business owners are advised to stay updated with local weather alerts and be prepared for sudden wind surges throughout the evening.
