Morristown, TN – Strong winds are expected to impact several counties across eastern and southeastern Tennessee through tonight, prompting a wind advisory issued by the National Weather Service.
According to the National Weather Service in Morristown, sustained south winds between 15 and 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are forecasted to continue through 8 p.m. EDT Wednesday in counties including Scott, Campbell, Morgan, Sequatchie, Bledsoe, and Marion. In Johnson, Unicoi, Southeast Carter, and Southeast Monroe counties, winds are expected to persist through 8 a.m. Thursday.
The weather service warns that these gusty winds may cause tree limbs to fall, leading to isolated power outages in some areas. High-profile vehicles, such as trucks and trailers, could face hazardous travel conditions, especially along ridgelines and open roadways.
Motorists are advised to use caution when driving, particularly on east-west routes where crosswinds may be stronger. Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items like patio furniture, trash bins, and decorations that could become airborne or damaged in the wind.
No widespread structural damage is anticipated, but localized disruptions are possible. Utility companies in the region are on alert in case of downed lines or outages due to falling branches.
This advisory comes amid a broader weather pattern bringing gusty conditions to much of the central and southern Appalachian region. The wind advisory remains in effect for the impacted counties until the specified expiration times, with conditions expected to gradually calm by early Thursday.
Residents should stay tuned to local media outlets and the National Weather Service for any updates or extended advisories as the system moves through the region.
