Mississippi Weather Update: Multiple Tornadoes Confirmed in Recent Severe Storms

Jackson, MS – Two significant tornadoes have been confirmed in Mississippi, stemming from the severe weather event that took place over the weekend. These twisters were part of a larger storm system that moved through the state on April 5 and 6, 2025. According to the National Weather Service, the tornadoes caused damage but no injuries or fatalities.

The first confirmed tornado, which occurred on April 5, was in the Schlater/Tallahatchie region. It had an EF-1 rating with estimated peak winds of 110 mph. The tornado touched down at 4:47 PM CDT and traveled for nearly 22 miles, with a maximum width of 650 yards. It remained on the ground until 5:19 PM CDT.

On April 6, a second tornado touched down in the northern Hattiesburg/Petal area. This tornado was rated EF-2 with peak winds reaching 115 mph. The twister, which spanned a path length of 6.45 miles and had a width of 400 yards, occurred between 5:57 AM and 6:06 AM CDT.

These two tornadoes are part of a larger series of nine tornado tracks identified by the National Weather Service, which included a mix of EF-1 and EF-2 ratings across multiple regions. Despite the damage, authorities report that there were no fatalities or injuries as of the latest updates.
