Jackson, Miss. – A stretch of mild, dry weather will give way to rising heat and growing storm chances across Mississippi starting midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, a high-pressure system is keeping the region calm through Tuesday, but increasing moisture will bring a 40–50% chance of rain and thunderstorms by Thursday into the weekend. Cities like Jackson, Vicksburg, and Natchez are expected to see highs in the low 90s with overnight lows climbing into the mid-70s.

By Friday, forecast highs may push heat index values near dangerous levels, especially across southern and central counties. Meridian, Hattiesburg, and Starkville could see afternoon storms that bring localized downpours and brief wind gusts. Drivers should watch for slick roads during peak travel hours and avoid flooded areas.

The National Weather Service urges residents to stay hydrated, limit outdoor work during peak heat, and monitor forecasts for updated advisories. While severe weather is not expected early in the week, rain chances and oppressive humidity will build each day.

Storm chances remain elevated through Sunday, with more alerts possible by midweek as temperatures climb.
