Albany, N.Y. – A swath of steady rain drenched much of eastern New York over the past 48 hours, with totals exceeding 2 inches in parts of the Capital Region, Adirondacks, and Hudson Valley through Saturday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, rainfall between May 31 and June 1 reached 2.55 inches in Schroon Lake, 2.25 inches in Schenectady, and 2.13 inches in Glens Falls. Albany logged 1.92 inches, while areas like Saratoga Springs and Amsterdam saw amounts ranging from 1.5 to 2 inches. The heaviest bands extended from the Adirondack foothills into western Massachusetts and northern Connecticut.
Localized flooding was reported in low-lying areas and near small streams in Washington and Warren counties. Storm drains backed up along parts of U.S. Route 4 and NY Route 9, prompting brief road closures in Hudson Falls. Residents were urged to clear debris from gutters and avoid driving through ponded roadways.
The rain brought a temporary break from early season warmth, with daytime highs holding in the 60s across much of the state. While no additional rainfall is expected this weekend, soils remain saturated, and runoff may persist through Sunday.
