JACKSON, Miss. – A refreshing change is on the way for Mississippi as a cold front pushes through midweek, bringing the coolest stretch of weather since early summer. By Wednesday night into Thursday morning, many cities could dip into the upper 50s, a sharp break from the recent string of humid 70-degree nights.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, northern and eastern parts of the state have the best chance—30 to 50 percent—for overnight lows below 60 degrees. Central areas, including Jackson, are expected to fall to around 60 to 65, conditions more typical of late September than late August.

The front will also bring drier air, easing humidity and offering clearer skies through Thursday. Highs will still reach the upper 80s to near 90, but evenings will feel significantly more comfortable. Outdoor activities, football practices, and evening commutes will benefit from the cooler air, though forecasters caution isolated showers and thunderstorms could return Thursday afternoon and again Friday.

This early taste of fall won’t last long. Moisture builds again heading into the weekend with storm chances increasing by Friday night and continuing through Labor Day.
