Mississippi – The air feels crisp and steady across central Mississippi this morning as Thanksgiving travelers hit the road under bright, clear skies. Flags ripple lightly in the breeze, and the scent of dry leaves mixes with the cool November air. Roads across I-20 and Highway 49 remain clear, but drivers will want to watch for gusty north winds up to 25 mph through the day.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, residents can expect sunny skies with highs near 60°F through the day, before temperatures dip into the 30s by late evening. Thanksgiving Day will bring a nearly perfect holiday feel — sunshine, calm winds, and highs in the upper 50s. Fire pits, backyard gatherings, and football watching will all come with a hint of chill as cooler air settles in across the region.

By Friday, sunshine continues with highs near 60°F again, but clouds build heading into Saturday, marking a pattern shift. A developing southern system is expected to bring rain and a few thunderstorms Saturday night into Sunday, followed by another round of cooler air early next week.

While no severe weather is expected, moderate rainfall could briefly slow travel across southern Mississippi and portions of I-55 by late weekend. Looking longer-term, national models are tracking a strong Arctic front arriving December 1–5, bringing sharply colder air across much of the U.S. — a possible “winter tease” for parts of the Deep South.

For now, Thanksgiving travelers can enjoy a calm, sunny stretch before the weather turns unsettled again this weekend.
