Jackson, Mississippi – Strong storms are sweeping across Mississippi today, bringing the risk of damaging winds, hail up to a quarter inch, and localized flash flooding from the Delta to the Pine Belt.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, storms began developing over Central Mississippi early Monday, with a second wave pushing in from the west by mid-morning. A third round could redevelop across south and southeast Mississippi—including Hattiesburg and Laurel—late this afternoon and into the early evening.

A Level 2 “Slight Risk” is in effect for severe storms across much of central and western Mississippi, with the highest impact window between 6 a.m. and 1 p.m. Roads like I-20 and US-49 may experience ponding or debris, especially in urban low-lying areas. Jackson, Meridian, and Philadelphia are under a Level 1 “Limited Risk” for heavy rain, which could trigger brief flash flooding.

Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roadways and to remain alert for rapidly changing conditions. Keep cell phones charged and monitor local alerts in case new warnings are issued.

Storm redevelopment is possible in southeast Mississippi through 8 p.m. Monday.
