Jackson, MS – A marginal risk of severe storms is expected across Mississippi tonight through Thursday morning, bringing the potential for hail and damaging wind gusts. Areas north and west of the Natchez Trace and along the Highway 82 corridor face the greatest risk.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, storms are expected to develop mainly between 9 p.m. Wednesday and 4 a.m. Thursday for western Mississippi, with eastern areas seeing potential impacts between 4 a.m. and noon. These storms may produce hail up to a quarter in size and wind gusts capable of causing damage.

Residents in cities like Greenwood, Greenville, and Columbus should remain weather-aware and prepare for changing conditions. While widespread severe storms are not anticipated, isolated storms with strong winds and hail remain a possibility.

Officials urge residents to secure outdoor objects, have a way to receive weather alerts, and remain cautious when traveling during stormy conditions. More updates will be provided as the system develops.
