Wadsworth, IL – Suspect Arrested After Fleeing Traffic Stop, Found with Drugs and Stolen Credit Cards

A Waukegan man was taken into custody after fleeing a traffic stop in Wadsworth, authorities said.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Shelmar K. Mays Jr., fled a traffic stop near Route 41 and Wadsworth Road around 9 p.m. A deputy later found the abandoned vehicle near Kelly Road and Mill Creek Road. A drone operator from Libertyville Police and a K9 unit from Gurnee Police located Mays and a female passenger hiding in a tree line.

Mays was arrested and found with multiple baggies of cannabis and numerous stolen credit cards. He faces several charges, including unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, fleeing to elude, and reckless driving. His passenger was released pending further investigation.

The case remains under investigation.
