Jackson, MS – A cold front moving through the region overnight will bring strong winds and colder air across much of Mississippi on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service in Jackson.

Forecasters say sustained winds will range from 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph possible between 4 a.m. and 7 p.m. Wednesday. The highest wind threat is expected across central and northern Mississippi, including Greenville, Yazoo City, and Jackson, where “elevated” wind levels could cause scattered power outages and downed tree limbs.

Drivers of high-profile vehicles are urged to use caution, especially along Interstate 55 and Highway 82, where crosswinds may be strongest.

The front will also deliver a noticeable drop in temperatures, setting up a chilly and blustery afternoon. Skies will remain mostly clear into the evening as winds gradually diminish.

Residents should secure outdoor decorations and trash bins, and keep a warm coat handy for early morning and evening hours.
