Houston, TX – Several weather alerts are in effect today across southeast Texas, including a Wind Advisory, Red Flag Warning, and Gale Warning, as gusty winds and dry air create hazardous conditions both on land and at sea, according to the National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston.
The Wind Advisory remains in effect through 7 p.m. Wednesday, covering much of the region including Houston, College Station, and Galveston, with northwest winds of 20–30 mph and gusts up to 45 mph. Drivers of high-profile vehicles are urged to use caution, and residents should secure outdoor decorations and loose items, especially with Halloween displays still up.
Meanwhile, a Gale Warning is in effect for Galveston Bay, Matagorda Bay, and the coastal waters from High Island to Matagorda, where winds could reach 50 knots and seas may climb to 8–11 feet offshore. Mariners are advised to avoid small-craft travel in these conditions.
Onshore, a Red Flag Warning—now expanded to include Austin, Colorado, Wharton, Jackson, and Matagorda Counties—is in effect from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.. With humidity levels as low as 15%, rapidly drying vegetation, and strong winds, officials urge residents to avoid outdoor burning or using equipment that produces sparks.
These conditions are expected to ease overnight as winds gradually weaken into Thursday.
