Jackson, Mississippi – Scattered thunderstorms are expected to bring heavy rain, gusty winds, and possible hail to much of Mississippi through Saturday evening, with daily storm chances as high as 80% across central and southern regions.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, locally heavy downpours and strong to marginally severe thunderstorms will develop during the afternoon and early evening hours each day. Cities including Jackson, Meridian, and Hattiesburg could see highs in the low to mid-80s, with persistent rain chances into the weekend.

Greenville, Greenwood, and Vicksburg are likely to experience multiple rounds of rain, while flash flooding may become a concern in areas with poor drainage. Rainfall totals through Saturday could exceed one inch in parts of the Delta and eastern Mississippi.

Residents should prepare for rapidly changing conditions by securing outdoor items, charging devices, and avoiding low-lying roads during heavy storms. Gusty winds and small hail could also impact travel and outdoor activities.

The wet pattern is expected to continue into the weekend, with the National Weather Service advising continued caution. Additional alerts or warnings may be issued as storm systems evolve.
