Memphis, TN – A fast-moving storm system pushed across north Mississippi into southwest Tennessee early Thursday, prompting tornado warnings and reports of damaging hail.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, radar indicated rotation in a severe thunderstorm that moved through northern Marshall and Benton counties, Mississippi, around 1:08 a.m. CDT. The storm crossed into Tennessee, impacting southeastern Fayette County and southwestern Hardeman County.

Spotters reported golf ball-sized hail and a radar-indicated tornado near Red Banks, approximately 9 miles northwest of Holly Springs. The storm tracked northeast at 50 mph, threatening areas including Moscow, La Grange, Williston, and Rossville.

Meanwhile, in DeSoto County, MS, and south-central Shelby County, TN, another tornado warning remained active with strong rotation near Eudora moving toward Horn Lake, Southaven, and the southwest Memphis area.

Residents were urged to seek shelter immediately, especially those in mobile homes or near wooded areas susceptible to falling trees.

Preparedness officials remind everyone: move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Stay away from windows and monitor emergency alerts for real-time updates as conditions evolve through the early morning hours.

These warnings are part of a broader outbreak affecting the mid-South region overnight into Thursday.
