Jackson, Mississippi – Severe thunderstorms are expected across much of Mississippi this weekend, with damaging winds and hail likely from Saturday morning through late Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, multiple rounds of strong to severe storms will affect the region, beginning Friday night in northeast Mississippi and intensifying through Sunday. The greatest threat lies Saturday into Sunday for areas north of I-20, including Columbus, Tupelo, and Grenada, where an Enhanced (Level 3) risk has been issued. Damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail up to quarter-size are possible.

Central and southern parts of the state, including Jackson, Meridian, and Brookhaven, are under a Marginal to Slight Risk through Monday. The threat includes isolated severe storms and repeated rounds of heavy rain, which may disrupt weekend travel and outdoor plans.

Residents are urged to stay weather-aware, secure outdoor items, and avoid unnecessary driving during storms. Keep mobile devices charged and have multiple ways to receive warnings.

Storm chances continue Monday with more thunderstorms expected, especially in central Mississippi. Additional watches or warnings may be issued through the start of the workweek.
