Jackson, MS – Heavy rain soaked parts of Mississippi and northeast Louisiana overnight as a line of storms moved through the region, producing 2 to 4 inches of rainfall in several areas, according to the National Weather Service in Jackson.
Radar estimates showed the most significant totals across the Big Black to Lower Yazoo River Basins, with observed measurements including 3.58 inches in Oak Grove, LA, 3.50 inches in Pioneer, LA, and 3.40 inches near Bayou Macon. In Mississippi, Rolling Fork, Holly Bluff, and Louisville each recorded around 2.8 inches.
Forecasters say that while widespread flooding has not been reported, the saturated ground may cause minor ponding on roads and elevated river levels in low-lying areas.
The rain is expected to taper off through Sunday, with drier and cooler air moving in behind the front. However, the Yazoo and Big Black River basins will continue to be monitored for possible rises through early week.
Residents are urged to use caution while driving in wet conditions and stay alert for any future flood advisories.
