Jackson, MS – A Freeze Watch has been issued across central and southern Mississippi, with sub-freezing temperatures expected late tonight through Saturday morning. Residents are urged to take precautions to protect sensitive plants and exposed pipes.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures could drop as low as 30 degrees overnight. Frost is likely to develop before sunrise, particularly along areas like I-55 and US-49, where moisture may create slick conditions for early drivers. Officials advise covering vegetation and draining outdoor faucets to minimize freeze-related damage.
Saturday morning will see widespread frost until around 7 a.m., giving way to sunny skies with highs reaching 57 degrees. However, another frosty night is expected as temperatures dip to the low 30s. This pattern continues through the weekend, with sunny, chilly days and clear, frosty nights into Tuesday.
Looking ahead, Monday and Tuesday will bring slightly warmer highs near the mid to upper 50s, though overnight frost remains a concern. A slight chance of rain reappears midweek.
Residents should remain vigilant, especially during early morning hours when frost conditions can create hazardous roadways. Prepare now by insulating pipes, checking heating systems, and staying updated on weather alerts.
