Lake Charles, LA – Freezing temperatures are set to impact southwest Louisiana this weekend, with a Freeze Watch issued for early Saturday morning. Interior regions may experience lows dipping to 30°F, posing risks to plants, pets, and plumbing.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), areas such as Ragley, Alexandria, and Oakdale could see the most significant temperature drops overnight into Saturday morning. Residents are urged to protect sensitive vegetation, insulate exposed plumbing, and ensure outdoor animals have adequate shelter. Additionally, frost conditions could create slippery surfaces, so caution is advised when traveling.

Daytime highs on Saturday will reach a modest 60°F under mostly sunny skies, but the chilly trend continues into Saturday night, with lows around 41°F. Winds will shift to calmer conditions, but temperatures will remain crisp, making for a cool start to Sunday.

A Small Craft Advisory is also in place for coastal waters, bays, and lakes through early Saturday. Strong northerly winds, gusting up to 25 mph, may lead to hazardous boating conditions. Mariners are advised to avoid the water until conditions improve.

Looking ahead, Sunday offers warmer temperatures, with highs near 65°F and clear skies. The warming trend extends into early next week, with highs in the low 60s and chilly but manageable overnight lows near 39°F.

Stay weather-aware, secure outdoor items vulnerable to frost, and avoid unnecessary boating activities until conditions stabilize.
