Jackson, MS – A dense fog advisory remains in effect for central and southern Mississippi, reducing visibility to as low as a quarter mile on major roadways, including I-55 and I-20. Motorists are urged to use low-beam headlights and reduce speeds to ensure safety.
According to the National Weather Service, the fog is expected to persist through 9 a.m. today, affecting areas near Jackson, Vicksburg, and Yazoo City. The advisory warns that visibility could drop to hazardous levels, especially in low-lying areas and near water bodies. Drivers commuting for New Year’s Eve preparations are advised to allow extra time for travel and stay vigilant on the roads.
Today’s high is expected to reach 62 degrees under sunny skies by the afternoon, once the fog dissipates. Tonight will bring mostly clear conditions with temperatures dropping to a low of 37 degrees.
Looking ahead, New Year’s Day will feature sunny skies and a high of 56 degrees. Overnight frost is likely as temperatures fall to 38 degrees. The week ahead shows cooler weather, with scattered showers possible Thursday evening and widespread frost returning Friday.
As foggy conditions continue this morning, ensure safe travel by using proper lighting and exercising caution. For those heading out early, delays on I-55 and local roads are likely.
