Wilmington, IL – Wilmington police are urgently seeking public assistance in locating Jennifer Tannhauser, 41, who has been missing for a week. On July 10, 2024, at approximately 4:45 p.m., authorities received a report of a missing woman from Fulton St. in Wilmington, who was reportedly experiencing a mental health crisis. Despite an extensive search of Wilmington and surrounding areas, officers were unable to locate her.
Less than 24 hours later, Tannhauser’s vehicle was found in Kankakee County, parked in a conservation area off Warner Bridge Road. Over the past week, officers from multiple agencies, including K-9 units and drone operators, have conducted thorough searches of the area and the Kankakee River but have not found Tannhauser.
Tannhauser is described as a 41-year-old female with brown hair and hazel eyes, approximately 5’4″ and 250 pounds, with a large tattoo on her back. She does not have her cell phone or wallet with her.
Police are aware of flyers inviting the public to assist in searching the abandoned women’s prison off IL-102. They urge the public not to enter this area without law enforcement escort due to safety concerns with the structures and landscape.
Anyone with information that may assist in the investigation is asked to contact the Wilmington Police Department at (815) 476-2811.
