Missing California Teen Charged in Illinois Fentanyl Bust in Kankakee Cornfield Crash

Morris, IL – An 18-year-old reported missing from California was arrested Thursday in Illinois, charged with trafficking fentanyl after a high-speed chase. The suspect, Roybin Barahona, fled with another suspect from from Illinois State Police and was later stopped by Grundy County deputies.

Deputies attempted to stop a red Infiniti near Kankakee Road and Route 17, only for the vehicle to speed away. A tire deflation device slowed the car before it crashed into a cornfield in Kankakee County. Both suspects reportedly fled on foot but were quickly captured.

According to the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, deputies discovered 3 kilograms of fentanyl in the vehicle’s rear compartment. Barahona, identified through fingerprint records as a missing person from California, now faces several charges, including controlled substance trafficking and obstructing justice. His passenger, Cristhian Anahel Erazo Velasquez, 23, was also charged.

Both suspects remain in custody at the Grundy County Jail, awaiting pre-trial hearings.
