Minnesota’s Northland is bracing for a sharp wind surge today as icy air and building gusts threaten travel across Duluth. Freezing fog clings to parts of the city this morning with temperatures near 25 degrees. Side streets feel slick, and visibility has dipped below a quarter mile at times near the harbor.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a Wind Advisory remains in effect from noon until midnight. West to northwest winds will increase to 15 to 25 mph, with gusts reaching 50 mph. Some exposed areas along the North Shore could see gusts near 60 mph. Gusty winds may blow around unsecured objects and could down small tree limbs. Isolated power outages are possible.

Drivers along I-35 and Highway 61 should prepare for sudden crosswinds by early afternoon. High-profile vehicles will feel the strongest push. Forecasters also warn that isolated snow squalls near the International Border could rapidly reduce visibility later today.

Temperatures climb to around 41 degrees this afternoon before falling sharply tonight. Lows plunge to near 3 degrees with continued breezy conditions, raising concerns for refreezing on untreated roads.

Saturday stays colder with highs near 16 under partly sunny skies. Sunday rebounds to 19 and sunny. Monday moderates to 34, then upper 30s Tuesday as March begins.

The 6–10 day outlook favors a gradual warming trend across northeast Minnesota into midweek.
