La Crosse, Wisconsin – Light snowfall Sunday morning is expected to create slick travel conditions across parts of western Wisconsin and southeast Minnesota, according to the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service in La Crosse reports that snowfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are likely in areas including La Crosse, Rochester, Winona, Wabasha, Austin, Decorah, and surrounding communities. Portions of central and eastern Wisconsin, including Wisconsin Rapids and Madison, may see less than 1 inch.
The primary impact window is between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. Sunday, when snow-covered roadways could reduce traction and visibility. Light snow may linger into Sunday night, though additional accumulation is expected to be minimal.
Daytime temperatures Sunday are forecast to range from the upper teens to upper 20s, remaining below seasonal averages. Overnight lows into Monday could drop near or below zero in some locations, increasing the potential for refreeze on untreated roads.
According to the National Weather Service, motorists should expect slippery travel at times, particularly on bridges, overpasses, and less-traveled roadways. No winter weather advisories are currently in effect, but conditions may change if snowfall becomes more widespread or persistent.
Drivers are urged to monitor updated forecasts, allow extra travel time, and adjust driving speeds as needed. Those traveling on major corridors such as Interstate 90, Interstate 94, Highway 61, and Highway 35 should remain alert for rapidly changing road conditions during the morning hours.
Cold temperatures are expected to persist through early next week, with limited precipitation chances after Sunday.
This may be especially relevant for early-shift workers, students, and Sunday morning commuters across the region.
