Minneapolis, Minnesota – After a foggy start to the day, parts of Minnesota will finally catch a glimpse of sunshine as patchy dense fog lifts this morning, setting up a relatively mild and quiet day before a wintry change arrives late Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities, fog will gradually clear through the morning, allowing for partly sunny skies this afternoon. Highs are expected to reach the upper 30s to mid-40s across much of central and southern Minnesota, including the Twin Cities metro, St. Cloud, and Mankato.
Changes arrive Thursday afternoon as a fast-moving system brings a chance for a mix of rain and snow, primarily affecting eastern and southern Minnesota as well as western Wisconsin. Areas near Rochester, Red Wing, and Eau Claire could see brief periods of mixed precipitation, though any accumulations are expected to remain light. Even so, wet roads and a few slick spots may develop late in the day and into Thursday evening.
By Friday, cooler air settles in behind the system. Skies turn mostly cloudy, with highs dropping into the upper 20s to mid-30s and lows falling into the teens and low 20s overnight. No significant snow is expected, but the cooler temperatures mark a return to more seasonable January conditions.
Drivers should remain alert for changing conditions Thursday afternoon. Additional updates may be issued if precipitation coverage or timing shifts later in the week.
