Duluth, Minnesota – A cooler airmass and persistent east winds will keep temperatures in check across northern Minnesota today, with highs stuck in the 50s near Lake Superior and rising into the 60s farther inland.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, skies will remain mostly sunny through Thursday before a slight chance of rain—20 percent—emerges Friday afternoon and again Sunday. Temperatures are expected to gradually climb, topping out in the low to mid 70s across much of the region by Sunday, though lakeshore areas will stay cooler due to the easterly flow.
Wind gusts up to 18 mph are likely Friday, especially along exposed ridges and lakefronts. Wind direction will remain primarily easterly through the weekend, keeping places like Duluth and Two Harbors cooler than surrounding inland cities like Hibbing or Grand Rapids.
Drivers should watch for gusty conditions on bridges and open highways, particularly Friday afternoon. Residents should keep an umbrella handy for light, scattered showers that may develop late Friday or again late Sunday.
Rain chances are expected to stay low through the weekend, with another update expected by Friday morning.
