Duluth, Minnesota – Strong thunderstorms could hammer northeastern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin tonight, bringing a risk of large hail, damaging winds, and even isolated tornadoes by early Monday morning. Residents from Duluth to the Brainerd Lakes region should prepare for possible power outages and flooded roads overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, an enhanced risk of severe storms — level 3 out of 5 — covers areas from Walker to Grand Rapids and stretches into all of northwest Wisconsin. The main hazards include two waves of storms, the first expected late tonight and the second hitting Monday, with potential for quarter-sized hail, wind gusts up to 60 mph, and flash flooding from heavy rainfall.

In Duluth, temperatures will hover around 46°F tonight with showers likely after midnight. Winds could gust up to 15 mph. Skywarn spotters may be needed tonight in the Brainerd Lakes area to monitor conditions as isolated severe storms develop.

Travelers are urged to avoid non-essential trips, especially near U.S. Highway 2 and along the North Shore, where water pooling and debris may create hazardous driving conditions. Residents should secure outdoor items and charge devices ahead of potential outages.

The threat of severe weather will diminish by early Tuesday as cooler, breezy conditions return. Additional watches or warnings could be issued Monday morning as the system intensifies.
