Chicago, Illinois – A strong storm system is set to sweep across Illinois Monday night, bringing a heightened risk of severe weather through early Tuesday morning. Areas north of Interstate 55 are particularly vulnerable to severe storms, with the potential for strong winds, hail, and even tornadoes. The National Weather Service has issued a “Level 3” threat in northwest Illinois, including Rockford, DeKalb, and Dixon, where the conditions are expected to be most intense.

According to the NWS, thunderstorms will intensify overnight Monday into Tuesday morning, with strong winds and possible tornadoes in some areas. The storms are predicted to weaken as they move eastward, but some severe conditions may persist, particularly in central Illinois.

By Tuesday, storm chances will decrease in northern areas but will linger in the south, mainly south of Interstate 80. Travelers should be cautious, especially on Monday night, when flash flooding and hazardous driving conditions may develop. The weather is expected to improve by Wednesday, though intermittent showers could continue.

Residents should stay updated with the latest forecasts and be prepared for potential power outages or travel disruptions. Stay off the roads during the heaviest storm periods and secure outdoor objects that may be affected by high winds.
