Duluth, Minnesota – A prolonged stretch of cold temperatures is setting up across northern Minnesota, with overnight lows dropping below freezing multiple nights this week, posing a risk to early-season plants and outdoor systems.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, temperatures will trend near to slightly below normal through the end of April, with several രാത്ര्स dipping into the upper 20s to low 30s. Cities including Duluth, International Falls, Hibbing, and Ely are expected to see repeated freeze conditions, especially during clear overnight periods.
Daytime highs will struggle to reach the mid-50s to low 60s early in the week before settling into the 40s and 50s later this week. Rural and low-lying areas face the highest risk for frost formation, particularly during calm nights with clearing skies.
Residents should cover sensitive plants, bring potted vegetation indoors, and protect outdoor plumbing where applicable. Gardeners across St. Louis, Itasca, and Koochiching counties should be especially cautious as soil temperatures remain vulnerable to rapid cooling overnight.
The cooler-than-normal pattern is expected to persist into early May, with long-range outlooks favoring continued below-average temperatures. Additional advisories may be issued as nighttime lows fluctuate, with the next update expected within 24 hours.
