Minneapolis, MN – A messy mix of snow, freezing rain, and sleet will sweep across Minnesota beginning Saturday night, creating treacherous road conditions through Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 10 p.m. Saturday through 4 p.m. Sunday. Portions of central, east central, south central, and southwest Minnesota—including the Twin Cities metro—can expect up to 3 inches of snow and a tenth of an inch of ice, with gusts reaching 35 mph. Travel on I-94, I-35, and surrounding highways may be hazardous, especially Sunday morning.

Motorists are urged to slow down and use extra caution, especially during early commutes. Check 511mn.org for real-time road updates. High temperatures on Sunday are expected to remain just above freezing, but slippery conditions will persist due to overnight ice accumulation.

Local Impact

The highest snow totals are forecast in central and western Minnesota, with icing concerns centered just south of the snow band, including parts of eastern and southern Minnesota. Expect improving conditions late Sunday, but another storm looms midweek.
