Minnesota – Freezing drizzle and snow are expected today across the Twin Cities area, creating slick conditions for drivers and pedestrians. Temperatures will climb to a high of 27 degrees this afternoon before snow and light freezing rain move in after 2 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), areas of light snow will begin this evening, with accumulations of up to an inch possible. Freezing drizzle could lead to icy conditions, particularly on untreated roadways, including stretches of I-35 and local highways. Drivers are urged to slow down, use caution, and allow extra travel time.

Looking ahead, Thursday will bring mostly cloudy skies and slightly warmer highs near 33 degrees. However, a significant Arctic chill will return by Friday night, with wind chills expected to dip as low as -20 degrees over the weekend. Saturday’s highs will only reach 11 degrees, with overnight lows plummeting to -8 degrees.

This extended cold snap will dominate through early next week, as Sunday and Monday bring frigid highs in the single digits and lows well below zero. The NWS has also issued a hazardous weather outlook for eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin, warning of subzero wind chills as low as -40 degrees.

Residents are advised to dress warmly, avoid prolonged outdoor exposure, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Be sure to keep sidewalks clear of ice and prepare for potentially hazardous travel.
