Quad Cities, IL — Warmer temperatures will provide a brief reprieve through Friday before Arctic air grips the region by Saturday. Residents should prepare for dangerously low wind chills this weekend as the coldest air of the season arrives.

According to the National Weather Service, today’s highs will reach the low 20s, but wind chills will remain in the single digits. A dusting of snow is possible tonight, especially in areas north of the Quad Cities. Thursday and Friday will see milder temperatures, with highs in the mid to upper 30s on Thursday and low 40s on Friday.

However, a sharp drop in temperatures is expected late Friday as an Arctic front moves in. Saturday’s high will only reach the upper teens, and wind chills could plummet to 15–25 degrees below zero by Saturday night. Sunday will be even colder, with highs near 10 degrees and lows near -5.

Travelers should exercise caution, particularly on elevated roadways, as icy conditions are likely with overnight lows reaching single digits starting Friday. Experts recommend dressing in layers and limiting time outdoors during the Arctic outbreak.

Looking ahead, the cold pattern will persist into early next week, with temperatures barely rising into the teens and wind chills remaining below zero.
