East Grand Forks, MN – Windy weather is gripping East Grand Forks and the surrounding Red River Valley, with gusts expected to reach up to 30 mph through Friday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, winds from the north at 7 to 17 mph will intensify Thursday, bringing gusts as high as 30 mph through the evening. Winds will continue into Friday with similar intensity before gradually calming by Friday night. These conditions follow a period of rainfall Thursday morning, which is expected to taper off by 2 p.m. with a 70% chance of precipitation before then.

Travelers in the region should exercise caution, particularly on open roads and bridges where crosswinds may affect vehicle control. Residents are advised to secure outdoor objects such as trash bins and patio furniture to prevent wind-related hazards.

Although skies will remain mostly cloudy today and Friday, conditions will improve significantly over the weekend. Saturday and Sunday are expected to bring sunshine with highs in the low 50s to mid-60s, offering a calmer, warmer break after the windy stretch.

Gusty April days are not unusual in the Upper Midwest, but today’s conditions may still pose travel challenges. Stay informed with local weather alerts and use caution during peak wind hours.
