St. Paul, Minn. – Morning commuters across the Twin Cities should prepare for sudden drops in visibility as dense fog settles over eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin, while residents in the Arrowhead region brace for near-critical fire weather conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, visibility may dip below one mile across Sherburne, Washington, Goodhue, and surrounding counties through mid-morning Wednesday. Drivers are urged to slow down and use low beam headlights, especially along I-94, Highway 52, and Highway 61.
Meanwhile, a separate alert from the Duluth office warns of fire weather risks across the Arrowhead, including Duluth, Ely, Hibbing, and Two Harbors. Breezy west winds up to 20 mph combined with humidity levels below 30% are contributing to rapid drying, particularly in areas that have missed recent rainfall.
Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged today. Residents should consult the Minnesota DNR’s fire restriction map before lighting campfires or debris piles.
Both advisories are expected to taper off by early afternoon, but additional warnings may be issued if winds increase or fog lingers.
