Duluth, MN – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Duluth has updated its tornado survey from June 12, 2024, confirming a total of six tornadoes that touched down across central and east-central Minnesota and the Minnesota Arrowhead. The updated count includes two EF-2 tornadoes, two EF-1 tornadoes, and two EF-0 tornadoes, reflecting a broader impact than initially reported.
According to the NWS, the most powerful tornadoes, both rated EF-2, occurred in Crow Wing and Aitkin counties, with peak winds reaching 120 mph. One of these tornadoes tracked 3.2 miles near Whitefish Lake and Clamshell Lake. The second EF-2 tornado covered a path of 4.7 miles near Rabbit Lake and Cedar Lake.
Additionally, two EF-1 tornadoes with peak winds of 100-115 mph were confirmed in Lake and Aitkin counties, affecting areas around Tanner Lake and Hammal Lake. The two EF-0 tornadoes, with peak winds of 65-80 mph, were documented near Wright and Cromwell in Carlton County and South of Glen in Aitkin County.
