Duluth, Minnesota – Spring travel across northern Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin could turn slick by Sunday night as wintry weather returns to the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, low pressure will bring a mix of rain and wet snow to the Northland starting late Sunday and continuing into Monday. Visibility could drop below a quarter mile Sunday evening, especially near the South Shore snowbelt and along U.S. Highway 61. There’s a 30% chance of 2 inches or more of snow in Grand Marais and Two Harbors, with a 20% risk for 4 inches in the Arrowhead.

Drivers are urged to use caution heading into Monday morning, particularly in elevated areas and near Lake Superior’s north shore. Gusty northeast winds up to 20 mph could reduce visibility and make road conditions unpredictable. Avoid non-essential travel during heavier snow bands and allow extra time for your Monday commute.

Saturday and Sunday will feel like classic spring in the Northland, with mostly sunny skies and daytime highs in the upper 40s and low 50s. Saturday night dips to the low 30s, while Sunday night turns breezy and colder.

Looking ahead, here’s your five-day extended forecast:

  • Saturday: Mostly sunny, high near 49°F
  • Sunday: Sunny early, breezy by afternoon, high 52°F
  • Monday: Chance of rain/snow, high 50°F, gusts near 25 mph
  • Tuesday: Sunny, high 56°F, light east winds
  • Wednesday: Partly sunny, breezy, high near 58°F
