Sioux Falls, SD – A severe weather pattern is unfolding across parts of South Dakota and southwestern Minnesota, with isolated thunderstorms forecast through Thursday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, the highest risk of severe storms will track along and southeast of a line from Windom, MN, to Vermillion, SD. These storms may bring gusty winds up to 30 mph and increased rainfall chances between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Affected areas include central, east central, south central, and southeast South Dakota, along with counties across southwest Minnesota such as Pipestone, Lincoln, and Lyon. Localized heavy downpours could impact evening travel, especially in cities like Sioux Falls, Brookings, and Yankton.

Friday will bring clearing skies and breezy conditions, with no hazardous weather expected through the middle of next week. Spotter activation is not anticipated.

Residents are advised to monitor local alerts and avoid outdoor activities during peak storm hours this evening. Secure outdoor furniture and remain indoors during any thunderstorm activity. Updates will be issued as needed by the NWS.
