Duluth, Minnesota – Large hail and damaging winds could hit parts of northern Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin late Sunday afternoon into early Monday as another round of severe thunderstorms sweeps through the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a cold front moving through the area will trigger scattered to isolated severe storms beginning late Sunday and continuing overnight into Monday. The primary hazards are large hail and damaging wind gusts, particularly in areas like Duluth, Ely, International Falls, and Grand Rapids.
The highest storm chances begin around 6 p.m. Sunday, with a 60% to 70% probability of thunderstorms in Duluth, Brainerd, and Silver Bay, rising to 80% by midnight in locations such as Hibbing and Grand Marais. In northwest Wisconsin, communities like Ashland and Superior should also prepare for severe weather but with slightly lower storm coverage.
Residents are advised to secure outdoor objects, avoid travel during peak storm hours, and ensure emergency kits and power sources are ready. Power outages and hazardous road conditions are possible, especially on Highways 53 and 61.
Storms are expected to taper off early Monday morning. However, additional updates and possible warnings may be issued Sunday night as conditions evolve.
