Minneapolis, MN – A large-scale manhunt is underway across southern Minnesota as state and federal law enforcement agencies continue to search for Vance Bolter, the suspect in the targeted attacks on state lawmakers earlier this week.
Authorities confirmed Sunday that Bolter remains at large and is the subject of both state and federal arrest warrants. He is wanted for multiple alleged murders and attempted murders, with a federal warrant also issued for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
According to Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Superintendent Drew Evans, the investigation led to a breakthrough in Sibley County early Sunday when law enforcement discovered a vehicle tied to Bolter. Near that vehicle, officers also recovered a hat believed to belong to him, intensifying search efforts in the area.
More than 100 law enforcement officers, including multiple SWAT teams, are now scouring the region. Agencies involved in the operation include the Brooklyn Park Police Department, Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, FBI, ATF, U.S. Marshals, and several local sheriff’s departments.
Evans emphasized that investigators are treating the situation as active and urgent. “We are operating under the assumption that he is alive,” he said, noting the wide search perimeter and the possibility that Bolter could be using multiple forms of transportation.
As of Sunday, the BCA has received over 400 tips from the public. Authorities continue to urge residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. A $50,000 reward, offered by the FBI, remains available for information leading to Bolter’s arrest.
“This case is a top priority for our state and our federal partners,” Evans said. “Our goal is to bring him into custody safely and as soon as possible.”
