Duluth, Minnesota – Heavy rain threatens to flood roads and low-lying neighborhoods across northern Minnesota beginning late Tuesday night, with the region under a Flood Watch until 7 a.m. Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, repeated waves of torrential rain are expected to move through Pine, St. Louis, Cass, Itasca, Cook, Lake, Aitkin, Carlton, and several Wisconsin counties—including Douglas, Bayfield, and Ashland. Flooding is possible from as early as 7 p.m. Tuesday for the Brainerd Lakes and Boundary Waters regions, with Duluth, Hinckley, and Superior under the watch by midnight.

Multiple tribal lands, including the Fond du Lac and Mille Lacs Bands, and the Lac Courte Oreilles and Bad River Reservations, could experience flash flooding as the rain falls on already saturated soil. Residents in Grand Rapids, Walker, Silver Bay, Hayward, and Spooner should brace for flooded roads, swollen creeks, and rapid water rises, especially along Highway 53 and U.S. 2.

Drivers are urged to avoid water-covered roads, keep cell phones charged, and monitor updates from local officials. Prepare emergency kits and consider alternate routes—especially in flood-prone neighborhoods and near rivers.

This threat is expected to last through Thursday morning, with additional watches or warnings possible as storms develop.
