St. Cloud, MN – Central Minnesota residents woke to bone-chilling temperatures Tuesday morning as a cold weather advisory remained in effect until 9 a.m. The National Weather Service reported wind chills as low as 32 below zero, creating dangerous conditions for anyone outdoors.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the advisory covers areas including St. Cloud, Alexandria, Willmar, and Fairmont. Wind chills between -25 and -32 can cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.
Residents are urged to wear layers, hats, gloves, and face masks to reduce the risk of frostbite and hypothermia. The advisory also recommends limiting outdoor activity during the early hours. Temperatures are expected to improve slightly by mid-morning, but conditions will remain frigid.
Travelers are cautioned to carry emergency supplies and to ensure vehicles are winter-ready. Frostbite symptoms include redness, numbness, and a waxy appearance to the skin. Seek medical attention immediately if these occur.
Minnesota’s harsh winter weather serves as a reminder to stay prepared during extreme conditions. While schools and businesses remain operational, those venturing out must take extra precautions.
As of now, no reports of weather-related injuries have been confirmed, but officials remain vigilant. Updates are expected as the day progresses.
