Minneapolis, MN – A Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect across central and southern Minnesota, including the Twin Cities, until noon Monday. Residents should prepare for drastically reduced visibility, with areas seeing as little as 1/4 mile or less.
According to the National Weather Service, dense fog has developed overnight, creating hazardous travel conditions. Freezing fog could leave bridges and overpasses slick, especially along major routes like Interstate 35 and Highway 52. Travelers are urged to reduce speeds, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra travel time through affected areas.
Conditions will gradually improve Monday afternoon as temperatures rise to a high of 37°F. However, skies will remain cloudy, and north winds at 5 mph will keep humidity high.
Looking ahead, expect cooler temperatures starting Tuesday, with a high near 29°F and mostly cloudy skies. New Year’s Day will bring partly sunny conditions, but highs will dip to just 21°F as northwest winds increase. Overnight lows throughout the week will range between 12°F and 18°F, making for a chilly start to 2025.
Drivers should monitor updates from the National Weather Service and consider delaying travel until visibility improves. Stay cautious near high-risk areas like bridges and ramps, which are prone to freezing.
Stay safe and check local forecasts for real-time updates as Minnesota transitions into colder conditions later this week.
